PM Solar Scheme provides free electricity, installation costs and subsidies

Welcone To PM Surya Ghar Yojana Muft Bijli Yojana

Premier Solar Scheme will provide free electricity

Solar energy is one of the largest energy sources and solar panels are used to convert an abundant amount of available solar energy into electrical energy. These panels not only provide relief from high electricity bills, but also generate electricity in an environmentally friendly way. In this article we will talk about such a solar system where you can get free electricity by installing solar panels.

Understanding the importance of solar panels, both the central and state governments are encouraging citizens to adopt solar panels. By installing solar panels at low costs, citizens can benefit in the long term from the electricity generated from these panels. The government provides subsidies to help with the installation costs of solar panels.

In 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the new Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana. Following this announcement, the PM Free Solar Electricity Scheme was launched in the Budget. Citizens can apply for these schemes to receive a subsidy for installing solar panels. To benefit from the subsidy, a solar energy system must be installed on the electricity grid.

With on-grid solar systems, the electricity generated by solar panels is shared with the electricity grid. Net metering is used to calculate shared electricity. This system requires no power backup and therefore no battery is required, reducing overall costs. Polycrystalline solar panels are often used in these systems. On-grid systems are best suited for areas with minimal power outages.

Subsidies will come from the solar plan

Under the Pradhan Mantri Muft Solar Bijli Yojana and other related initiatives, citizens can avail subsidies for installation of solar panels with a capacity ranging from 1 kW to 10 kW.

  • A subsidy of ₹30,000 is provided for a 1 kilowatt solar system.
  • A subsidy of ₹60,000 is provided for a 2 kW solar system.
  • A subsidy of ₹78,000 is provided for solar systems from 3 kW to 10 kW.

To install a 1 kilowatt solar system, a consumer will need approximately 10 square meters of roof space. It is advisable to purchase and install solar energy equipment from suppliers registered with the Department of Renewable Energy. Applications for this scheme can be submitted through the local post office.

An on-grid solar system typically consists of solar panels, a solar inverter, and a net meter. Without subsidy, the cost of installing a 1 kW solar system is approximately ₹60,000. With subsidy, this cost comes to around ₹30,000. The total cost after subsidy is approximately ₹1,00,000 for a 3 kW system. This makes it easier for citizens to install and benefit from solar systems.
