Farmers with private tube wells in Uttar Pradesh are getting free electricity

Being an agricultural country, India is highly dependent on agriculture. Farmers often need electricity for many agricultural purposes. Using electricity from the grid results in high electricity bills and using fossil fuels causes economic losses and a lot of pollution. To overcome these challenges, there is a need for modern technology in agriculture, especially in irrigation. The government provides subsidies to farmers for solar pumps. In this article, we will talk about one such scheme, which provides subsidies to farmers for installing private tube wells.

Know what the free electricity schedule is

The aim of the free electricity program is to empower farmers economically by allowing them to install solar pumps for irrigation at a low cost. This initiative helps in the development of agriculture, which can bring financial benefits to the farmers. The government is continuously encouraging farmers to use solar equipment to modernize the agricultural sector.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that it will provide free electricity to farmers with private tube wells. This proposal was approved at the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Under this scheme, farmers can use free electricity for their private tube wells. The Chief Minister has initiated this plan to improve the economic condition of farmers in the state.

Connect the tube properly to the solar panel

About 14.75 lakh private tube wells in the state will be connected to solar panels through Prime Minister Kusum Yojana and the Energy Department. These solar panels will use solar energy to properly power the tube. Solar panels convert sunlight into electrical energy that will be used to run tube wells allowing farmers to irrigate their fields.

If irrigation is not necessary, farmers can sell the electricity generated by solar panels to the government. This gives farmers an extra income, making them more self-reliant. By offering such schemes, the government promotes environmental conservation and encourages farmers to contribute to environmental conservation.

Know the benefits of the scheme

This scheme is expected to benefit 15 lakh farmer families and 75 lakh citizens of Uttar Pradesh. It was launched during the Sankalp Se Siddhi programme. The BJP government had promised in its 2022 manifesto to provide free electricity for private tube wells and now this promise has been fulfilled.

The Uttar Pradesh government has provided statistics on private tube wells in the state. There are about 14,85,960 private tube wells in the state. Of these, 13,48,093 tube wells have a capacity of 10 HP or less. Apart from this, 1,28,944 private tube wells have a capacity of 10 to 15 HP, and 8,923 private tube wells have a capacity of 15 HP. Last year, the government had invested ₹1,500 crore to connect these tube wells with solar panels and this year the investment has increased to ₹2,400 crore.
