The Solar Rooftop Scheme allows citizens to install solar panels on their roofs and receive subsidies from the government. This scheme helps in reducing electricity bills and also contributes to saving the environment. By participating in this program, individuals can save up to ₹72,000 annually. To install a 1 kilowatt solar panel, you need 10 square meters of space. If you install a solar system from 1 kW to 3 kW, you will receive a 40% subsidy and if you install solar panels from 4 kW to 10 kW, you will receive a 20% subsidy.

Solar panels provide free electricity for 20 years

Under the Solar Rooftop Scheme, citizens who install solar panels receive a government subsidy and benefit from free electricity generated by these panels for twenty years. In addition, any additional electricity generated can be sold back to the energy companies, providing an additional source of income.

Solar panels installed through this plan can generate electricity for up to 25 years, and the initial costs are typically recouped within the first 5 to 6 years. This means that the electricity produced is in principle free for two years.
